Mabel Evelyn Caldwell (nee Motley) [Lead Belt News, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri/April 23, 1943] -- MRS. ARTHUR CALDWELL -- Mrs. Arthur Caldwell, well known Flat River woman, passed away Saturday evening, April 17, 1943, at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, ending a prolonged illness. She was 46 years 1 month 13 days of age. Mabel Evelyn Motley was born in Potosi, Missouri on March 4, 1879, and moved with her parents to Desloge when she was a small girl. The family later moved to Flat River, where she attended the public schools and grew to womanhood. On September 25, 1917, she was united in marriage to Arthur Caldwell and they were the parents of three children: Corporal Harvey Caldwell of the U. S. Army, stationed at Macon, Ga., Janet and Bill at home. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her passing four sisters: Mrs. Della Puckett, Amador, Calif.; Mrs. Fannie Koontz, Saginaw, Mich.; Mrs. Ida Weber, Bonne Terre and Mrs. Lulu Politte, Desloge; two brothers, Robert Motley, St. Francois and John Motley, Rivermines. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Etta. Mrs. Caldwell was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Rebekah and Pythian Sister Lodges, and was an active and interested member of each gorup as long as her health permitted. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Taylor Avenue Methodist Church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Robert N. Armbaugh and Rev. A. C. Johnson. Burial was in St. Francois Memorial Park. Richardson Service. |
