Narrative

He was a fifer at the battle of Bunker Hill, when but a boy, and a soldier afterwards with his brother Adonijah for some years. He studied law with Aaron Burr in New York, and was in partnership with him before, and during his vice-presidency. He was for a long time an alderman of the city, and was generally called "Alderman Strong." He was chosen eighteen times a member of the New York legislature, and was an inspector of the state prison (in 1810), and judge of the court of admiralty.
