Note

Judge Josiah Bartlett Strong graduated at Yale, in 1806, studied law for 2 1/2 years with Hon. Roger M. Sherman, of Connecticut, and afterwards with Charles Marsh, of Woodstock, Vermont, the most eminent lawyer of his day, in Vermont (father of Hon. George P. Marsh). He settled as a lawyer at Northfield, Vermont, where he became successively justice of the peace, representative in the State legislature (1820-1), first Asst. Judge of the County Court, and Chief Judge of the same. In 1826, he removed to Huntington, Vermont, and in 1828 to Starksborough, Vermont. He was about 6 feet high, and had a broad chest, dark hair and eyes, and a light complexion.
