Narrative

James Cunningham Sr. came to upper Louisiana in 1802. He received permission to settle in 1802 from Pierre De Luziere, Commandant, from New Bourban, Dist. of St. Genevieve. The land he settled on -- 1500 arpens (Fr. measure) is located on the St. Francois River in St. Francois County. The Board of Land Commissioners thru his survey #829 by Nathaniel Cook, gave James Cunningham clear American title. He fought with the Virginia Militia. In 1833 at 77 yrs of age, he applied for a Revolutionary War pension.
