Crider - McDowell Family Tree

He was for 30 regular sessions a member of the Connecticut General Assembly (from 1771, onwards); chosen a member of the Continental Congress (1774), but declined the election; judge of the County Court (1780-91); a commissary of supplies for the Revolutionary army; a delegate to the State convention which adopted the constitution of the U. S., in 1788. He had also an abundance of town offices, and was town clerk for 16 years, inspector for 6, selectman for 13, beside being constable, grand juror, surveyor, etc. He was a man of diminutive figure, limping gate and an unpleasant countenance, and is said to have succeeded in gaining his great ascendancy in his district by his arts as a pettifogger and a politician. Judge Strong became dissipated in his later years, and had a guardian appointed over him.
