JAMES CLARENCE McDOWELL, Associate Judge, Springfield Court of Appeals. -- Was born on a farm on March 20 1890, in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. His father was a soldier in the Confederate Army. He attended the Cape Girardeau Public Schools and the Southeast Missouri State College, from which he was graduated with a B.S. degree in 1911. He taught in the rural schools for two years and was principal of Millersville High School in Cape Girardeau County for two years. He then attended the School of Law of the University of Missouri ans was graduated in 1916. He practiced law in Cape Girardeau County one year as a partner of H. E. Alexander, moving to Mississippi County where he was elected prosecuting attorney three times. In 1932, he was elected to the State Senate from the Twenty-third District and was re-elected for a second term. He was elected circuit judge in 1940 and was re-elected in 1946. Was appointed judge of the Springfield Court of Appeals on July 8, 1948, and elected to the office in 1950. He was married to Miss Carolyn E. Snider in 1912. They have one daughter--Mrs. Elaine Denny of Glasgow, Missouri, and two grandsons--James McDowell Denny, age 13, and Jack Harrison Denny, age 17. Address: 308 Hunter, Charleston, Missouri.
